Two tourists narrowly avoided a dangerous encounter with a wild elephant on National Highway 766, which traverses through the Bandipur National Park. The heart-stopping incident was captured on video by another tourist from the safety of their car.

According to Savad C A, the filmer, the harrowing event occurred on January 31st around 10 am at Abballa, near the Kerala border. Savad, traveling with his family, witnessed two men desperately fleeing from a charging tusker, with a red car seemingly racing alongside them.

Expressing concern for the men's safety, Savad recounted, "At one point, we thought one of the men would be trampled by the animal." Miraculously, as one of the men stumbled and fell, the elephant diverted its attention to a passing vehicle, sparing him from harm.

"We sped away as we were very much shocked," Savad recalled.

This incident comes in the wake of a recent incident where the Kerala Forest Department imposed a hefty fine on a tourist who narrowly escaped injury while attempting to take a selfie with an elephant herd. Trespassing on prohibited forest land, as per officials, carries severe penalties, including imprisonment or hefty fines. The Karnataka Forest Department has initiated an inquiry into the recent incident, aiming to identify the individuals involved.
