Thai police are furious over a video of a couple having sex on a beach in Pattaya as they battle to clean up the seedy tourist destination.

The naked holidaymakers were seen romping just yards away from fellow holidaymakers on Sunday evening February 4 on Jomtien Beach between Soi Jomtien 6 and 7.

A shocked Russian tourist recorded the pair as they switched positions several times before spooning on the sand - oblivious to those around them.

Footage of the lewd behaviour emerged online and it was reported to local police.

Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Ensarn warned that sharing the amusing video on social media would damage the image of the city - best known for its corruption and round-the-clock sex industry.

He said: 'The couple will be prosecuted if they are caught. Lewd behaviour is an offence under Section 388 of the Penal Code.

'Sharing the video online is also a crime under the Computer Crime Act.'

Former fishing village Pattaya has become known since the 1970s for its corruption and degenerate underbelly - with its round-the-clock sex industry and nightlife attracting hundreds of thousands of Brits each year.

Officials in Bangkok have been trying in vain to clean up the area for several years and since the war in Ukraine, Russians have also fled to the city to escape the conflict in their homeland - adding yet more chaos to the region.

In October last year, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin courted reviled Russian leader Vladimir Putin and even invited him to visit Thailand to strengthen ties between the two countries.
