Horrified shoppers and tourists and shoppers told of their shock when a London double decker bus ploughed into a shop in the West End.

Two people were hurt when the bus crashed on busy New Oxford Street, just yards from

Tottenham Court Road tube station, just after 10 am today (TUES).

The road was cordoned off around the scene where the bus crashed through the front windows of a shop between an All Bar One pub and Costa Coffee.

Police say two people were injured in the incident; one was taken to hospital while the other was treated at the scene.

The bus has been removed, but the road remains closed and other bus services are being diverted.

Student Vansh Patel, 17, arrived at the scene just moments after the crash.

He said: "I’m interested in photography, so I had come out into central London to take photos. "

"But then I saw all the police cars and ambulances, and came over. "

"The bus was basically crashed through the building, it was mad - it looked like it had just veered off the road and gone straight through into the shop." "

Mr Patel stayed to watch as a lorry removed the bus from the building.

"It got dragged out," he said. "It’s just waiting around the corner now." "

Other pedestrians said they believe that the building the bus crashed into was an empty retail unit.

"Someone said it was being used for an art pop-up, so I don’t think anyone works there yet," another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said. "

"But I suppose people could be preparing so I hope no one was inside at the time." "

Two men, who work in the area, joked that the bus driver was "practising for the F1". "

The bus involved was painted yellow rather than red like typical TfL services.

One person said: "The Number 8 comes down New Oxford Street, so I think it’s that one. "

"I see it while I’m working. "

"Maybe it’s yellow because it’s been painted for some marketing or advertising campaign."

The bus appears to be advertising for flight company Vueling.
