Explosion and Fire Rock Distribution Plant in Macomb County, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 4 March 2024.
A loud explosion at the Select Distributors plant in Macomb County on the night of 4 February sent shockwaves through the community, prompting hundreds of concerned residents to call Local 4 news.
The explosion, which occurred on 15 Mile Road in Clinton Township, was followed by a massive fire that engulfed the distribution plant.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel confirmed that the explosions began around 9 p.m., with emergency responders quickly rushing to the scene. The fire, fueled by CO2 or propane, continued to burn as firefighters worked diligently to contain it.
As the situation unfolded, concerns about air quality arose, prompting authorities to deploy a HAZMAT unit to assess the situation. Unfortunately, by early morning hours one bystander had succumbed to injuries while two others, including a firefighter, were hospitalized.
Emergency management teams sprang into action, coordinating with local schools and businesses to ensure safety measures were in place. Damage assessments are ongoing, with nearby buildings likely impacted by the explosion.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation as authorities work to understand the full scope of the damage.
