Several villages were affected by flash flooding caused by illegal logging in the South Pesisir Regency.

Footage from March 13 shows large amounts of wood piling up in residential areas and damaging houses.

This wood was carried away by the flood currents that occurred on March 7. There were hundreds of houses destroyed and damaged as a result of being hit by these logs.

According to West Sumatra Province Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Kalaksa, Rudy Rinaldy, the flash floods that occurred in the area were due to illegal logging that occurred in the upstream part of the river.

The conditions at that time made residents panic because the evacuation route was blocked by large logs scattered throughout the flooded area.

Four houses were destroyed and swept away by the flash flood.

Luckily there were no casualties in the flash flood disaster area in Batu Bala village.

However, losses due to the disaster are estimated at billions of rupiah.
