This is the shocking moment a cargo ship crashed into a gantry crane sending it crashing to the ground in Turkey.

The Hong Kong-registered YM Witness, chartered by Taiwanese company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, collided with the structure while docking at the Evyap port in Kocaeli on March 16.

Footage shows the vessel approaching the dock at a steep angle before hitting the quay crane as workers were seen running from the scene.

The impact caused a domino effect as two adjacent cranes also collapsed.

One worker was reported to have been seriously injured, while several cargo containers were reportedly knocked overboard into the water.

The cause of the accident was unclear. Local authorities were investigating the matter.
