High-Speed Chase on Rails Ends in Arrest of Suspect with Stolen Vehicle and Drugs in Kalamazoo, US
This footage was filmed and produced 13 March 2024.
A 44-year-old suspect in Kalamazoo, Michigan was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle filled with drugs and stolen catalytic converters.
The incident began when a concerned citizen contacted the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) after spotting a man driving an older Chevrolet Silverado towing a stolen trailer on Wednesday morning. KDPS officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.
Upon approaching the suspect, officers noticed several freshly cut catalytic converters in the bed of the truck. The driver then attempted to flee the scene, crashing into a patrol car before leading officers on a dangerous six-minute pursuit.
The chase ended when the suspect got stuck on a railroad track, prompting him to try and dislodge the vehicle. Eventually, he decided to surrender to law enforcement.
During the arrest, officers discovered suspected methamphetamine in the suspect's possession. It was later revealed that the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen from the Portage Police Department.
The 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody and booked at the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges including fleeing and eluding, possession of stolen property, and possession of methamphetamine. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
