A man got stranded on a car roof as a record-breaking rainfall hit a city in southern China.

The video was filmed in Shaoguan City in Guangdong Province on April 4.

Shaoguan City grappled with an unprecedented deluge as continuous heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in various parts of the city. The city's municipal and fire departments were quickly on the scene, launching a large-scale operation to pump out water and clear mud from the flooded streets, while also working tirelessly to rescue those trapped by the rising waters.

In what has been described as a record-breaking weather event for Shaoguan City, the district of Qujiang experienced the city's highest rainfall in a single hour, with a staggering 135.5 millimetres of rain recorded, shattering all previous meteorological records for the area.
