Police found hidden cameras they claim a pervert stepfather had been using to record himself abusing his stepdaughter in Spain.

The stepdad allegedly drugged the minor with tea he prepared every night, before recording himself assaulting her at their family's home in the town of Mijas in Malaga.

Police were alerted when the girl's boyfriend allegedly discovered a camera hidden in one of the stuffed animal toys in her bedroom.

He told her mum, who then filed a report with the Civil Guard.

The alleged victim told the investigators that, at night, the stepfather made her tea and that after drinking it she always felt very tired.

A search of the house on April 15 reportedly found further cameras hidden in a lightbulb and an electric socket in the teenage girl's bedroom and bathroom.

Authorities said they also discovered a USB stick containing videos of the stepdad sexually assaulting her while she was asleep.

The recordings showed that the alleged rapes had been happening for at least two years since she was 16. The stepdad had been living with his partner and stepdaughter for seven years.

When he learned that a complaint was lodged against him, the man, a foreigner, is said to have fled the house and spent three weeks switching through different apartments using an online platform to evade arrest.

He was finally caught while trying to retrieve his computer from a bus station locker in Malaga.

Police said he is facing charges of sexual assault, violating privacy, and possession of child pornography.

He has been remanded in custody following his appearance in court.
