Angler releases endangered sea turtle tangled in line
An angler freed a sea turtle that was caught on his line.
Footage shows the marine animal swimming around the boat while one of its front flippers was stuck by the string in Albay province, the Philippines on April 12.
The fisherman Miguel Bandagosa pulled the shelled creature and carefully freed it before saying ‘sorry, goodbye.’
He waved to the sea turtle and it swam away while Miguel continued trawling in the area,
Miguel said: ‘I released the sea turtle back to its home after a mishap.'
The main threats to sea turtle populations include bycatch from fishing operations, coastal development, pollution and marine debris, climate change impacts on nesting beaches, and historic overharvesting of eggs and adults.
Many countries have laws protecting sea turtles, but enforcement remains an issue in some areas. Conservation efforts like securing nesting beaches, reducing bycatch, and promoting sustainable tourism are crucial to preventing further decline of these ancient marine reptiles
