This is the shocking moment a dog bit a teenager in an apartment lift in India.

The youngster was going up to her unit when the doors opened on the third floor and the pooch bounded inside the elevator in Noida, Uttar Pradesh on May 4.

She backed away as the canine lunged towards her while a man scared the dog out.

The girl was crying and terrified as she closed the door again while looking at her wounded arm.

There has been no statement from the building management or the police so far.

In March, the Centre asked states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of 'ferocious' dogs, including Pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers and Mastiffs.

In April, a German Shepherd was seen charging at a six-year-old girl riding her bicycle in an apartment complex in Ghaziabad.

The directive added that those with these breeds as pets must sterilise them at once.

The Animal Husbandry Department has received representations from citizen forums and Animal Welfare Organisations to ban people from keeping some breeds as pets.
