STORYLINE:

The 40th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between China's Anhui Province and Germany's state of Lower Saxony was celebrated on Wednesday in Hefei, the provincial capital of Anhui.

A delegation of over 60 people from Lower Saxony attended the celebration ceremony, joined by over 100 people including local officials and business representatives from about 170 local companies.

Participants from both sides have voiced strong interest in seeking further cooperation in green development.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MAIKE BIELFELDT, Managing director of Hanover Chamber of Industry and Commerce
"For us in Europe and also in Germany, it's very important to be climate neutral, and therefore we have to strengthen our cooperation, and we can learn from each other. We have big companies here from Lower Saxony, like Volkswagen. Also Continental is here. And we can cooperate, for example, in making some kind of vocational training system, bringing more training systems to China. And also to bring renewable energy, your knowledge to Germany. And also for example, for electric cars, battery systems, battery storage, I think you are much ahead now and that's something we can learn from you and bring it down to Lower Saxony."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MAXIMILIAN BUTEK, Executive director and board member of German Chamber of Commerce in China-East China
"Anhui of course is focusing on these kinds of areas, be it renewable energies, be it environmental protection, automotive industry, etc. German companies are leading, but Chinese companies are also quite good. Chinese have very good systems, and we have very good hardware. So I think if we combine these two strengths, there will be a lot of exciting new companies forming and established our joint ventures to offer new products, which are reliable, which are cost-competitive, and provide good solutions for the consumers."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LIU QINGFENG, Chairman of Huishang Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of iFlytek Corporation Limited
"Today, we have seen a lot of German enterprises coming here. As the entrepreneurs of the two sides have more communications and the governments reach more consensus on the development strategy and cooperation purpose, the cooperation space between China and Germany in the fields of energy and science and technology will be much broader."
