SOUNDBITE 1 (English): KHAMIS MUSSA OMAR, Tanzanian Ambassador to China
"When Africa is still lagging (behind), is a little backward compared to other regions, it poses a lot of opportunities for investment, especially on new energy. (China's) new invention, innovation are not coming at a very high cost, which is really amazing. So we have really a good opportunity for us to cooperate in terms of investment on a lot of production, a lot of things here. So for them (Chinese green energy companies), it's an investment and opportunity for them to invest (in Africa), but for African countries also be an opportunity to leapfrog to new energy."
He also noted China has set a good example in the green transition and African countries need to follow in this trend.

"I think it's very important that everybody else also follow the footsteps of China, invest on R&D, invest on innovation and make sure you respond to the market advance. The (electric vehicle) industry is at infancy stage, especially for Africa. You need also to have all these supporting infrastructure before EVs can really start being seen in the African market. But eventually, this is the way that the future we have to go to that direction."
