A policeman performed a CPR on a monkey that collapsed with heat stroke in India.

Officer Vikas Tomar, 52, found the primate lying on the ground and looking very weak inside their station compound in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh on May 24.

Footage shows Vikar pressing the chest of the animal that fell unconscious due to extremely hot weather at the Chhatari police station.

When the animal showed signs of recovery, he held it up and poured water over its head to cool it off.

The officer then helped the monkey to drink some water until it regained strength and survived.

Vikar said: ‘Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive it while my colleagues protected me from its agitated troop.'

Officer Vikar added it took him 45 minutes before the monkey was strong again to rejoin its friends.

He said: ‘The monkey was too smart. It visits us in the station every day ever since.'

Severe heatwaves across the region, with temperatures soaring between 40 to 55 degrees Celsius, are causing residents to suffer from dehydration, heatstroke, and other heat-related illnesses.
