Chinese child injured in indoor rock climbing accident at mall
On June 1, a seven-year-old boy was injured in an indoor rock climbing accident at Yuefang City Mall in Nansha, southern China. Footage from the scene suggests that the safety rope may have snapped, leading to the fall.
On June 2, mall staff confirmed that the boy was taken to the hospital at 3 p.m. on the day of the incident. He suffered a fractured right foot. According to staff, the boy had reached the top of the climbing wall and pressed a button to descend when he suddenly fell. Police have reviewed surveillance footage for their investigation.
Mr. Xia, the person in charge of the climbing project, stated that they had never encountered an incident of a safety harness failing before. The harness has been confiscated by police, and experts are determining the cause. The injured boy is currently in the hospital with a comminuted fracture in his right foot and a minor fracture in his left heel. His head and chest were unharmed.
The involved business has suspended operations. The indoor rock climbing facility had been open for two months prior to the accident.
