A resident had to be rescued when he was stuck in a 30cm wide crevice while retrieving his phone that he accidentally dropped.

Hoang Phuc Sen, 53, was scrolling on his handset by the window after dinner when the device slipped from his hands in Ha Tinh City, Vietnam, on June 1 around 8:50 pm.

The father removed the window frame so he could lean down and reach for the smartphone but he fell through the 6.5 ft deep thin gap between two concrete walls.

Hoang shouted for help from his family, who called the rescue team, as he couldn't breathe properly while lodged at the bottom.

Footage shows the volunteers shining a torch on the man and pointing an electric fan at him to help with ventilation.

Hoang was facing sideways, so the rescuers grabbed his right arm to pull him upward. He was screaming while the rescuers lifted him until he was saved after a 30-minute operation.

An officer from the Ha Tinh Provincial Police said: 'Our Provincial Police Command and Traffic Control units in Ha Tinh Province responded to an emergency call about a person trapped between two walls on Hai Thung Lan Ong Street in the city.

'Upon arrival, we found a man stuck in the narrow space between two residential buildings. According to the victim, he had accidentally dropped his phone in the gap and attempted to retrieve it, which led to his entrapment. Our officers acted swiftly and extricated the individual safely from the confined area.'

Hoang was generally healthy despite being weak from difficulty breathing due to a lack of oxygen at the crevice and minor scrapes.
