STORYLINE:

A seminar on China-Africa agricultural cooperation kicked off Wednesday in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province.

The three-day event aims to foster deeper collaborations in agricultural science and technology between China and Africa.

African participants have lauded the fruitful results China-Africa agricultural cooperation has yielded in advancing Africa's agricultural modernization.

"Many people have no food to eat in Africa, so we need to have to increase the productivity of crops. We need to have to increase the production of the agricultural sector. So the Chinese government is specifically helping the African countries to increase the technology on the agricultural sector to increase the production in the agricultural sector. So, I think the Chinese government is doing very great on the agricultural sector to collaborate with African countries to increase the technology transfer."

"I'm happy to note that in some countries in Africa, the Chinese Agricultural Academy of Science is now working together, and also Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, CATAS, is also having institution, some projects on the continent in the area of rice with the Juncao technology as well as propagation of cassava. Cassava is the strategic, all-weather resilient crop, the extreme weather resilient crop. And just making value additional production (and) improved production is taking shape. And I'm happy that this is thanks to this cooperation."

"The Chinese government has invested hugely in capacity building for Africa. So now there are many more African students who are coming to China to study, not just in agricultural sciences, but in all disciplines of knowledge, the computer science, medicine, agriculture, social sciences, the financial sector. We'd like to know how China makes this miracle of its rapid development, that has to do with economics, it's got to do with finance, it's got to do with what I'll call disciplined implementation of policies."
