Residents monitor Taal Volcano amid heightened activity
Footage shows Taal Volcano spewing a large cloud of steam and gas in the Philippines on Saturday morning, June 22.
Residents are monitoring the volcano, which has seen increased activity in recent weeks.
seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in a June 18 bulletin that a 'voluminous emission' of plumes up to 2,100 metres tall was observed, while a sulfur dioxide flux of 5,478 tonnes per day was detected.
A volcanic tremor lasting 12 minutes long was also recorded. Taal volcano is under Alert Level 1 indicating low-level unrest. The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
