On the morning of June 25, in Yunyang County, Chongqing, a girl on her way to school fell into an open manhole, which had been displaced by heavy rain, sparking a dramatic rescue by nearby students and passersby.

Surveillance footage captured the incident as the girl, preoccupied with adjusting her umbrella, stepped into the open manhole on the sidewalk. Realizing the danger, a group of students and passersby rushed to the scene. Without hesitation, they lay on the ground to peer through the narrow opening and began the rescue effort.

Thanks to their swift action, the girl was successfully pulled to safety. At the time of the rescue, the water level inside the manhole had already reached her neck, making the timely intervention crucial. Although shaken, she was unharmed and returned home after receiving basic first aid.

The rescuers then covered the manhole to prevent further accidents, demonstrating their social responsibility and care for the community. Local authorities have since launched an investigation and pledged to enhance the regular inspection and maintenance of urban infrastructure to ensure public safety.
