This is the shocking moment a woman with a dog falls into a manhole after getting out of a taxi.

CCTV footage shows the passenger disembarking from a motorcycle cab with her pooch in Ancon, Lima Province, Peru, on February 17.

She is barely able to take a couple of steps before walking onto the pit cover, which was not properly secured.

It gives way under her weight, and she plunges, disappearing from sight.

Passers-by rush to her aid, with one taking the leash of her canine.

Eventually, another finds a ladder, which is placed down the shaft, allowing her to climb back up.

The woman said: 'I did not notice the manhole after exiting the vehicle. I was so scared. Luckily, my dog didn't fall with me. I'm grateful to the locals who helped me.'
