In a tragic accident on the morning of June 28, a campervan returning from a three-day pilgrimage in Belagavi City collided with a parked truck, killing at least 13 people, including two toddlers, and injuring four others in India.

The collision occurred along National Highway No. 48 in the village of Gundenahalli, Karnataka state, at around 3:45 am local time. The campervan struck a stationary lorry, resulting in the immediate deaths of 11 people at the scene. Two more individuals succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, as confirmed by a senior police officer.

A bystander promptly alerted emergency services, and an ambulance arrived quickly to provide aid. The deceased have been identified as Parshuram, 66; Bhagya, 33; Nagesh, 34; Vishalaskhi, 36; Arpita, 22; Subhadra Bai, 68; Punya, 2; Roopa, 2; Manjula Bai, 58; Adharsha, 23; Manasa, 33; and Manjuala, 55. One more deceased person is yet to be identified.

The four injured passengers were taken to Haveri Government Hospital, with two of them in intensive care.

Anshu Kumar Srivastava, Superintendent of the Haveri Police, stated: "The victims were returning from Chincholi Mayamma Devasthana and heading to their native Yemehatti village in Shivamogga district. The lorry was improperly parked on the side of the highway, and the tempo traveller hit it from behind."

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident may have been caused by the lorry driver's alleged improper parking.
