Plane with 297 passengers onboard catches fire in Pakistan
A plane carrying 276 passengers caught fire when it landed in Pakistan this morning.
Saudia flight SV793 had taken off from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at 4:47 am local time before touching down in Peshawar at 10:25.
But those onboard the Airbus A330 were terrified when a fire broke out due to a problem with the landing gear.
Footage shows firemen at the Peshawar Bacha Khan International Airport dousing the flames before passengers used the inflatable slide to escape from the vehicle.
Flag carrier Saudia, formerly Saudi Arabian Airlines, said that smoke was seen coming from one of the wheels. They said all of the passengers and 21 crew were evacuated safely without any injuries.
A spokesman said: ‘Saudia clarifies that its aircraft, flying from Riyadh to Peshawar on flight SV792, experienced smoke emanating from one of the tyres while landing at Peshawar International Airport in Pakistan.'
Officials said that air traffic control quickly relayed the incident to the pilot and the fire and rescue team, who arrived promptly and successfully extinguished the blaze.
The plane has been taken out of service while the incident is investigated.
