Cote d'Ivoire's economic capital of Abidjan held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for its new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, which is being undertaken by Chinese companies.
The event was attended by more than 100 people from Cote d'Ivoire's government, World Bank, French Development Agency, and Chinese construction companies.
Cote d'Ivoire's Prime Minister Robert Beugre Mambe said that the country's first BRT project is an important part of Abidjan's public transportation service plan and a key element in the transformation of urban transportation.
BRT services will run from Yopougon to Bingerville, with 21 modern bus stops placed along the 20-kilometer route.
