Chinese teen on scooter narrowly escapes death as truck runs red light in northwestern China
A teenage boy on a scooter narrowly escaped being run over by a heavy semi-trailer truck that ran a red light in northwestern China.
Terrifying CCTV footage filmed in Shizuishan City in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on July 4, shows a truck running a red light, narrowly missing a 12-year-old boy on a scooter.
Ma, the driver of the semi-trailer, was travelling westward along Provincial Highway 302. Despite the red light, Ma made no attempt to slow down and drove straight through the intersection. At the same time, the teenager, Su, was riding a scooter, attempting to cross the zebra crossing from the right side of the intersection.
Suddenly confronted with the looming truck, Su tried to brake and swerve to avoid it. However, the high speed and slippery road caused him to lose control and crash to the ground.
The scooter slid under the truck and was crushed beyond recognition. Miraculously, Su managed to roll out of the way just in time, narrowly escaping being run over by the truck's wheels.
After examining the scene, reviewing surveillance footage, and questioning those involved, the local traffic police concluded that Ma bore the primary responsibility for the accident due to running the red light.
However, Su was also found to be partially at fault for riding a scooter without being of legal age and failing to observe traffic regulations.
