This is the harrowing moment two Indian women were rescued after allegedly being buried alive over a family land dispute in India.

The women, Mamta and Asha Pandey, were protesting about the construction of a road on their leased property when a truck reportedly dumped a pile of gravel over them in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on July 21.

Footage shows villagers rescuing one woman who was half-buried under the debris amid frantic crying from horrified locals.

They also scrambled to unearth another woman, seen unconscious as she was lodged neck-deep in the dirt. She was taken to hospital where she is recovering.

Rewa Superintendent of Police, Vivek Singh, said: 'It is a family land dispute between two sides. One side wanted to make a road and they were spreading pebbles for it.

'Two women came under the pebbles when they were being dumped.

'A case of attempt to murder has been registered under section 110 of the BNS. There are three accused and one has been arrested. The victims have been discharged from the hospital.'
