Concerns over Thames shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery's deterioration off Kent, UK
Concerns have been raised that Thames shipwreck SS Richard Montgomery is deteriorating faster than expected based on the latest survey findings.
The ship which sank just 1.5 miles off Sheerness, Kent in 1944 was loaded with 1400 tonnes of explosives.
The latest survey report issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency notes that deck space near one of the holds appears to be collapsing.
Footage filmed from Sheerness beach at low tide this morning (July 26) shows the wreck's three masts which are visible above the waterline.
