This is the heartwarming moment determined athletes continued to race while being battered by a typhoon.

Footage shows the competitors braving the wind and heavy rain to finish the two-kilometre walking finals of the 2024 National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) meet in Legazpi, Albay, the Philippines, on July 24.

The audience can be heard cheering, shouting, and applauding as one of the walker in the lead neared victory and crossed the finishing line.

Upon winning the race, the athlete took a proud wave and bowed to the amazed spectators.

Filmer Mark Mahinay, who cheered along with the crowd, said: 'We couldn't be prouder of the athletes' dedication to finish the race despite the severe rainfall and windstorm. We take pride in being athletes, whether it's raining or shining.'

PRISAA is an annual national sports event for private schools.

The country has been experiencing severe rainfall from Typhoon Gaemi, which has since moved to Taiwan.

The rainstorm affected one million residents and killed at least 22 individuals as the typhoon exited the country's area of responsibility. It killed at least three people in Taiwan.
