This is the shocking moment a tourist crashed into riders blocking a path and tumbled down a steep hillside.

Mountaineer Robby Arynalhaq Setiawan hired plunged some 20ft down a slope while descending Mount Merbabu, where the narrow trail left little room for error.

Footage shows the holidaymaker riding pillion as the driver carefully manoeuvres along the treacherous mountain path, with another motorcyclist just ahead in Central Java, Indonesia.

Moments later, a motorbike travelling in the opposite direction collided with their vehicle, sending both the tourist and his rider hurtling into a gully on April 29.

The pair did not suffer any serious injuries from the fall, but sustained scratches and some bruises.

Robby said nearby riders quickly rushed to help, pulling them out of the gorge and lifting the motorbike back onto the track.

Mount Merbabu, which rises over 3,100 metres, is one of Central Java's most popular trekking destinations, famed for its panoramic views, alpine meadows, and rugged trails. Despite its beauty, the steep and narrow routes pose risks even to seasoned travellers.
