Two teachers at a school in Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting 40 students. The alleged abuse, which took place between 2022 and 2024, occurred both on school grounds and in the school dormitory. The school has since terminated the employment of both teachers.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi City Police Office on Friday (2024/7/26) shows, police arrested Ronald Andany, 29, and Arief Abdullah, 23, following reports from dozens of parents. The allegations came to light when one victim confided in their parents, leading to an investigation.

Bukittinggi Police Chief, Police Commissioner Yessi Kurniati revealed that the victims ranged in age from seventh to ninth grade. The assaults allegedly occurred in various locations, including the victims' rooms and common areas.

"The perpetrators would often call the victims to their rooms under the pretense of giving massages," said Police Commissioner Yessi Kurniati. "They would then sexually assault the victims, threatening them with academic consequences if they refused."

Both teachers had a history of sexual abuse, having been victims themselves, according to the police chief. The school has terminated their employment. The suspects face up to 20 years in prison under Indonesia's child protection laws, with additional penalties due to their positions as educators. **(end)

Our investigation led us to discover that another male teacher, AA, had sexually assaulted at least 10 other students.," Bukittinggi Police Chief, Police Commissioner Yessi Kurniati said.

Sound on Video (Time Code 00:02:20 - 00:02:43) - "The perpetrators would lure the victims to their rooms with the promise of a massage. Once alone, they would sexually abuse the victims, threatening academic failure if they reported the abuse. Tragically, both teachers were themselves victims of sexual abuse, perpetuating a cycle of violence.," Bukittinggi Police Chief, Police Commissioner Yessi Kurniati said.
