A rare all-white tufted deer has been seen on camera for the first time, and people are amazed that it has survived in the wild with no natural camouflage.

The Muli County Wildlife Conservation Association set up an infrared camera in the Muli Primitive Forest, Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China, on August 14.

It recorded the surprising appearance of a female albino tufted deer, a rare variant of the species and the first documented instance of a white tufted deer in the region.

Footage shows the albino deer moving cautiously through the forest, frequently pausing to survey its surroundings with heightened vigilance.

Unlike the typical brown fur of tufted deer in summer and black fur in winter, this deer's white coat results from albinism, a genetic mutation that causes a lack of pigmentation.

Located at an altitude of 2,800 metres, the monitoring point in Muli Forest has also recorded various other wildlife, including black bears, Chinese serows, and timber wolves, highlighting the rich biodiversity present in this remote area.
