A terrified resident found a 15ft (4.5 metres) long crocodile taking shelter on his front porch during floods in India.

The large reptile swam across the Vishwamitri River and waded through floodwater to take refuge in higher ground before wandering into the property in Vadodara, Gujarat, on August 29.

Footage shows the croc with its mouth open facing the main door of the home.

The residents tried to lure it away with a stick and rope but to no avail so they called the forest department for help.

The resident said: ‘We were shocked when we woke up in the morning and the crocodile was there.'

Wildlife workers caught the crocodile and it was evacuated from the area after an hour.

The incident is the latest involving crocodiles in the region.

On August 28, an 11ft (3.3 metres) long crocodile was rescued in the Sama region after it was seen swimming in flood.

Two days of intense rain battered the region causing the river to overflow which is home to more than 300 crocodiles.
