This is the moment firemen extinguished a fire from an electric vehicle in South Korea.

The black 2022 Kia EV6 electric vehicle caught fire in a parking lot in Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, on August 6.

Footage shows 35 staff from the Geumsan Fire Department dousing the fire with high-pressure water. The fire was extinguished after an hour.

A police official said: 'The owner of the vehicle stated that he had parked it around 7 pm the previous day and had left the charger plugged in. We believe the fire started from the vehicle's battery.

'Our first priority is to determine whether major components, such as the battery, contributed to the cause of the fire. We will investigate the vehicle's maintenance history with the owner and review the vehicle's history before the fire,' he added.

Residents urged the government to declare a special disaster area as more than 800 residents have been living in the evacuation area due to power and water outages that lasted several days. However, the government declined, believing the fire did not warrant the declaration of a special disaster area.
