Boats powered by AI are being deployed in India's waterways in an effort to help reduce water pollution.

The vessels manufactured by Clearbot use a conveyor belt to scoop litter out of bodies of water and into a collection bin.

Footage shows the robot in action on Umiam Lake, a local hotspot of water sports in India's Meghalaya.

According to the manufacturer: "Clearbot Is a modern sustainable infrastructure to automate the collection of marine surface pollution. Built for urban waterways, Clearbot is able to intelligently recover surface trash, oil, foam and even invasive plant species.

"With 4 hours of battery life, typical RF range of 5 km and onboard visual range of 1km, Clearbot allows a one-man team to deploy and capture hazardous and pollutant waste of up to 200 kgs per mission."
