A woman failed to notice a cobra trying to attack her on the patio of her home - even when it reared up to strike her leg.

Kristhine Joy Bation Sevilla stepped out of the front door when she heard someone calling outside but did not immediately see the serpent in front of her in Zamboanga del Sur, the Philippines.

She was talking to a neighbour while scrolling on her phone when the snake tried to lunge at her.

However, Kristhine fled while screaming when she finally spotted the deadly reptile slithering beside her before calling neighbours for help.

CCTV footage shows the cobra trying to bite Kristhine's leg without success before it slithered away. The resident slammed the door behind her when she saw it and called for help.

She said: ‘I was almost attacked by the snake. It was captured clearly by our security camera.'

Before Kristhine left the house, their pet cat saw the snake and kept it from slithering inside.

Her neighbours came to help catch the snake and carried it to be released into the wild.

The Philippine cobra is highly venomous and potentially deadly. Its venom is neurotoxic, affecting the nervous system and leading to paralysis. Bites can cause respiratory failure which can be fatal if not treated promptly.
