A resident's deep-fried pork exploded in flames in an epic cooking fail.

Sakchayakorn Aphichotattasiri and his girlfriend were trying to make crispy German pork knuckle when boiling oil splashed in Pathum Thani, Thailand, on October 25.

Footage shows his partner trying to flip the hock in the pan when its skin bursts.

The oil splashed out of the pan and ignited but it was quickly extinguished by turning off the stove.

The couple then fled the kitchen while the boyfriend was heard laughing at the unexpected incident.

He said: 'We saw the recipe online and followed the instructions. It was our first time trying to make that.'

The couple was unhurt but had to clean up the greasy mess in the kitchen afterwards.

The German pork knuckle dish is commonly known as Schweinshaxe. It is a traditional Bavarian dish featuring a roasted pork knuckle, known for its crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat. While it is traditionally roasted in the over, the couple tried to deep fry the hock which caused the grease explosion.
