This is the shocking moment a cargo plane crashed into a radio antenna after overshooting an airport runway in Colombia.

The Aerosucre aircraft bound for Valencia, Spain was taking off from the El Dorado International Airport in the Colombian capital Bogota when it slammed into the Instrument Landing System some 990 feet (300 metres) past the end of Runway 14L at around 4:43 pm local time on November 10.

Footage shows how the Boeing 727-200 struck the localizer array used to guide pilots in poor visibility conditions.

Despite the damage, the freighter was able to climb higher before entering a holding pattern to expend fuel. It returned to the El Dorado International Airport an hour later with no further damage or injuries reported.

In a statement, the Colombian Civil Aviation Authority said: 'A technical team from the Civil Aeronautics is evaluating the magnitude of the damage caused to the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and its possible impact on airport operations.

'It should be noted that at the time of the incident, all airport systems and services were operating normally to handle the cargo flight.'

Authorities said an investigation into the incident was underway.
