Crane arm snaps sending water tank crashing to ground in China
This is the shocking moment a crane arm snapped during a demolition job, sending a water tank crashing to the ground in China.
Footage shows residents witnessing the water tower being hoisted by the crane during the clearing operation in Chengdu, Sichuan, on December 12.
However, during the dismantling of the structure, the machine's mechanical arm broke, causing it to fall along with the top section of the building.
The filmer said: 'The workers behind the demolition were extremely irresponsible, neglecting even the basic structural volume, showing a complete lack of concern for both the construction workers and the surrounding public.'
Deng Hua, 29, an employee of Sichuan Jujiekun Construction Engineering and a father of two, died in the accident after falling from a high altitude when the boom of the machine broke during the demolition operation.
A police investigation found that the construction contractor failed to create a proper construction organization design and special plan in line with regulations for dangerous projects.
The contractor also allegedly neglected to verify the actual weight of the object being lifted and did not conduct proper safety checks, which led to the accident.
Local media reported that the person in charge of the project has been suspended for investigation, and two personnel involved in the construction unit have been punished according to the law.
