Employees receive school-style punishment for keeping pensioner waiting
Humiliated government employees in India received a school-style punishment for making a pensioner wait for too long.
Footage shows 16 staff members receiving a 20-minute 'stand-up' reprimand from their superior at their workstations at the administrative department in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on December 16.
An IAS officer scolded the employees for failing to promptly assist the elderly man at the Noida residential plot department.
Dr Lokesh M, the manager, took action after reviewing CCTV footage, which showed the elderly man waiting for a long time at the counter.
Lokesh entered the office and questioned the staff about failing to address the man's concerns.
He explained to the media that the footage revealed the staff neglecting the client's property issue, leaving him standing for nearly an hour.
The manager said: 'After reviewing the CCTV footage, I observed one of our employees simply sitting without acknowledging the guests.
'I then proceeded to that section and instructed the staff to stand for 20 minutes while assisting visitors.'
Reports indicate that around 65 CCTV cameras monitor the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority office.
In response to the neglect of the pensioner's needs, all employees were made to stand while working as a disciplinary measure.
