A leopard was rescued after causing panic by entering a monastery and becoming trapped in the attic of a bathroom.

The incident took place in Manav Kalyan Ashram in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, northern India on December 29.

Visuals show the leopard resting in a dark corner of the monastery. After being tranquilized, the rescue team placed it in a cage on a vehicle, as distressed crowds gathered to watch. From the cage, the leopard observed the onlookers, its presence visibly intimidating.

Speaking to Newslions, Sub-Divisional Officer, Poonam Kanthola stated that the 5-6-year-old male leopard had entered the monastery in the Kankhal police station area and was rescued following a seven-hour operation.

The incident was reported at around 6:30 am when the Haridwar Forest Division was alerted. She mentioned that a rescue team, including the range officer and forest personnel, was dispatched immediately. The team worked carefully to ensure the animal's safety before transporting it to the Chidiyapur Rescue Centre in Haridwar for a medical examination.
