This is the amusing moment a ravenous wild elephant stopped a pickup truck to steal food.

The majestic creature helped itself to some limes on the back of the black vehicle in the middle of the road at Phufawaree Farm in Phetchaburi, Thailand, on December 21.

Footage shows the elephant munching on the fruits while the driver patiently waits for the animal to finish its snack before continuing down the highway.

The filmer said: 'We had to wait a bit for the elephant to finish the food. They said we had to pay a toll fee, and I didn't know this was where we should pay.'

Elephants are known for their voracious appetite. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) found need to eat up to 150kg of food per day - the equivalent of 375 tins of baked beans

Conservationists in Thailand say that wild elephants - up to 3,500 of them - have even developed a taste for human food and prefer to rummage through homes and vehicles for snacks, instead of the bland leaves they find in the forest.
