This is the amusing moment a northern cardinal bird pecked a CCTV camera while rummaging around for food.

Footage shows the male creature, Mr Tapper, repeatedly tapping on the device at a home in Ferndale, Arkansas, on January 15.

Mr Tapper, a regular visitor alongside his mate Mrs Tapper, earned his name from his habit of tapping on windows and doors - typical behaviour for cardinals.

The surveillance camera set up on the front porch was intended to capture local wildlife, including chipmunks, squirrels, possums, raccoons, cats, and various bird species.

The northern cardinal, known for its vibrant red plumage and distinctive crest, is a popular songbird across North and Central America. Its striking appearance and melodic songs make it a favourite among birdwatchers.
