Brave veteran rescues 10-year-old girl and her mother who swept out to sea in China
On the afternoon of January 30, a dramatic rescue unfolded near the Haitianyise scenic spot beach in Wanning, Hainan Province. A 10-year-old girl was suddenly swept into the sea by a massive wave while playing in the sand. Her mother attempted to rescue her but was also knocked down by the waves and failed to reach the child.
At this critical moment, Mr. Lin Jiatai, a retired veteran from Jieyang, Guangdong, quickly sprang into action. He first brought the girl’s mother safely back to shore. Then, risking the powerful waves, he repeatedly dove into the sea. After several attempts and with assistance from bystanders, he successfully rescued the young girl. The entire rescue operation lasted around three minutes.
The girl was conscious when brought ashore and was found to be in good condition after a medical examination. Her mother, deeply grateful for Lin’s life-saving act, expressed her heartfelt thanks.
Mr. Lin, now working as a photographer, explained that he was in Hainan for a holiday photoshoot during the Lunar New Year. He said it was his duty as a veteran to help in such situations, and he simply did what was right.
In recognition of his heroic actions, the Wanning City Government awarded Mr. Lin the title of "Bravery Role Model" and a cash reward of 20,000 yuan.
