Good Samaritan rescues girl swept away in river in China
A heroic man rescued a girl swept away in a river in southern China
Video filmed in the city of Qingyuan in Guangdong Province on September 11, shows a man named Luo Jinzhi leaping from an approximately 8-metre-high riverbank and swimming vigorously toward a girl who was swept away in the river.
Within minutes, the girl was safely brought to the riverbank. Local police and firefighters arrived at the scene and joined efforts to rescue the child.
A witness Ms Lei said her heart was in her mouth until she saw the girl safely rescued. As the child was declared unharmed, cheers erupted from the crowd, lauding Luo Jinzhi's selfless act.
The owner of a breakfast shop told reporters, "I've known him for a long time; he's a good person and very kind-hearted. It's not surprising at all that he would do something courageous like this."
Medical examinations revealed that the girl suffered no serious injuries.
The girl's parents personally expressed their gratitude to Luo for his heroic actions.
"I'm a strong swimmer, and it only took a few minutes to rescue her. Seeing her safe and sound makes me very happy," Luo Jinzhi remarked.
When local government officials attempted to interview Luo Jinzhi for further details, he humbly declined. "This was just a simple act of helping out. Thank you all," he said in response, displaying his modesty and humility.
