Students locked a leopard in a school toilet in India.

Several quick-thinking schoolchildren confined the one-year-old cub that had wandered away from the forest in search of food in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, on February 22.

One of the students recalled that the wildcat had entered the premises, and they initially thought it was a cat, but upon closer look, they discovered it was a leopard.

They then reportedly told the school administration, which contacted the forest rangers to retrieve the animal.

Footage shows wildlife experts transporting the furry creature inside a cage out of the campus.

No one was reportedly hurt in the encounter.

Local media reported that the leopard underwent a health examination before being released back into its natural habitat.

Meanwhile, officials searched the surrounding areas to ensure that there were no other cubs or adult leopards in the vicinity.

The leopard population in India has grown from 12,852 in 2018 to 13,874 in 2022, according to the Status of Leopards in India 2022 report, released by the Union Environment Ministry on February 29.

The development of homes in and around forests has led to an increase in conflicts with humans.
