This is the spectacular moment lava fountains erupted from Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

Dramatic footage captures the fiery eruption, with molten rock spurting from the Halema'uma'u crater on Wednesday, March 5.

The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory confirmed that episode 12 of the Halema'uma'u eruption began on Tuesday at 7:30 am HST.

Fountains reached heights of 30-165ft (9-50m), although the USGS predicts they may climb higher.

Sporadic lava flows shifted between the south and north cones before the episode concluded at 10:37 am HST on Wednesday.

Each fiery outburst lasts about 14 hours, followed by unpredictable pauses ranging from one to 12 days.

Kilauea is the world's most active volcanic mass and is the central feature of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Its caldera is nearly three miles long and two miles wide, with an area of more than four square miles.
