This is the impressive moment a Golden Retriever was spotted riding the waves during a surfing class in Texas.

Astro, the talented one-year-old Goldie, glided over the water alongside students during the workshop on the beach on Padre Island.

Footage shows the well-trained canine standing still, balancing on a blue surfboard as it cruises towards the shore on March 20.

Impressed learners can be seen surfing next to him.

Pet owner Space Padre said: 'Astro is more than just a surfing companion. We trained him to assist in rescuing humans caught in the surf too.'

Golden Retrievers are highly talented in water due to their natural swimming abilities and strong instincts. They were originally bred as hunting and retrieving dogs, specifically to retrieve waterfowl, which makes them excellent swimmers.
