Birmingham City Council's Street Cleansing Team worked tirelessly to clear around 14 TONNES of rubbish from one residential street corner on Monday 24 March morning.

The crew used two bin wagons which had to make several trips to nearby waste processing plants to empty and reload.

The team, who are different to refuse collectors, arrived to clear the huge fly-tipped mountainon Ombersley Road in the Balsall Heath area of the city.

One black VW Golf was swamped by the waste.

A resident who lived next to the pile, but did not want to be named said: 'Residents came down late last night and dumped the rubbish by the roadside, completely blocking the path.

'They brought bags by hand some took their wheelie bins and others used their cars and even vans.

‘They are residents, not the businesses.

'I called the police but they said it was a fly-tipping problem.'

The street cleansing team have lost 20 crew members over the last year due to council cuts.

Over 400 refuse workers continue industrial action over the scrapping of the safety critical Waste Recycling and Collection Officer (WRCO) role, resulting in pay cuts of up to 8,000 pounds for 150 workers.

Striker's have threatened to continue striking until Summer if their demands are not met.
