SS Richard Montgomery shipwreck mast removal delayed again off Kent, UK
Plans to remove the masts from a Thames Estuary shipwreck off Kent, UK have been delayed again (April 8).
American liberty ship SS Richard Montgomery sank with 1400 tonnes of explosives back in 1944 just over a mile offshore of Sheerness.
Proposals to remove the masts were originally announced in 2021, but according to the latest report published by Kent Online have now been delayed again whilst a suitable contractor is sought for the tricky operation.
Footage shows the three masts which are visible from Sheerness seafront.
