A schoolgirl who fell into a narrow hole at a construction site was rescued.

The seven-year-old had been playing with friends when she failed to notice the opening on the ground in Bangkok, Thailand.

She could barely fit in the pit, which was only 16 inches wide and 10ft (3 m) deep, prompting locals to call firefighters for help on April 8.

Footage shows the youngster raising her arms under the hole as rescuers lowered a rope to pull her out.

There was water at the bottom that reached her waist.

A neighbour said: 'The workers dug it for a foundation pile. We immediately called the 199 hotline.'

The girl followed instructions from volunteers, and she was extracted from the hole in less than half an hour.

She sustaineda minor injury to her arm and was given first aid on the scene before being taken to the hospital.
