Elephant underestimates own strength and pulls down tree... and telegraph pole
An elephant pulled down a tree and a telegraph pole with its trunk.
The tusker was spotted yanking the tree and electrical mast at Khao Yai National Park in Phetchaburi, Thailand, on April 5.
Footage captured by Wittaya Jaisom shows Plai Duan Wanalee uprooting the tree with its weight and tugging it out of the soil.
The cables attached to the pole became tangled in the branches, causing the post to topple to the ground.
Onlookers, visibly astonished, could be heard gasping in awe as they witnessed the sheer strength of the animal.
An elephant's trunk is exceptionally powerful, capable of lifting up to 770 lbs (350 kg). It is used for various tasks, such as pulling down trees, moving heavy objects, and even picking up small items.
Thailand is home to around 3,500 wild elephants. While their population has been steadily increasing in recent years, it remains a fraction of the estimated 300,000 elephants that once roamed the country at the start of the 20th century.
The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand include habitat loss, fragmentation, poaching, and human-elephant conflicts.
